In the year 1170 AD, Leonardo Pisano was born into the Bonacci family that lived in what is now Pisa, Italy. His father was a wealthy Italian merchant. So, in his travels throughout the Middle East, Leonardo became captivated by the mathematical concepts in India. When he returned to Italy, he published these concepts in a book titled Liber Abaci.
At that time, European tradesmen and scholars were still clinging to the use of the old Roman numeral system. When Pisano introduced them to modus Indorum, the Hindu numeral system, he became the most illustrious mathematician of the Middle Ages.
Centuries later, the late Pisano came to be known as Fibonacci, the son of Bonacci. His book illustrates the practical importance of the Hindu numeral system using lattice multiplication and Egyptian fractions. Modern mathematics would have been impossible without this system of numerals, which we now call Arabic.
But, hidden away in Fibonacci’s book, there is also a brainteaser for which the answer is a specific sequence of numbers that continues indefinitely. Each number in this sequence is the sum of the previous two. So this sequence of numbers is 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, etc.
As this sequence continues, the ratio between each number becomes closer and closer to 1.618 – the Golden Ratio, also known as Phi. This is the ratio that nature relies on to maintain balance. It describes the proportions of everything from atoms to planets.
This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 300 cubits Long, 50 cubits Wide and 30 cubits High. Genesis 6:15
In the biblical Book of Genesis, Noah is instructed to use the Golden Ratio in the building of his famous Ark. Where one cubit converts to 20.6 inches, 300 cubits converts to 6180 inches, the inverse of Phi.

Almost everything has dimensional properties that adhere to this Golden Ratio of 1.618. If you divide the number of female bees in a hive by the number of male bees, you will get 1.618. And sunflowers, which have opposing spirals of seeds, have a 1.618 ratio between the diameters of each rotation.

The Golden Ratio, which is also known as the Golden Section and the Golden Mean, has a fundamental function for the building blocks of nature. It appears in art and science, as well as in classical theories of beauty and proportion. The most fascinating display of this sequence is in spirals, which can be seen in everything from pine cones to pineapples to nautilus shells – even the DNA molecule.
Leonardo Da Vinci used the Golden Ratio and the proportions of his famous drawing, Vitruvian Man, to allow the squaring of a circle by means of a straight edge and a compass. He did this with amazing accuracy. He believed in the Law of Correspondence – that the workings of the human body are an analogy for the workings of the entire Universe.
